Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to Rootrees (the "Service"). By downloading or using this App, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (the "Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

The Service is developed and operated by Rootree, and applies to the iOS and Android apps as well as the website (rootrees.app).

2. Account & Security

• You must provide a valid email address to create an account
• You are responsible for maintaining account security and must not share your account with others
• If you discover unauthorized use of your account, notify us immediately
• You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. Users under 13 require parental or guardian consent
• One account per email address

3. Service Description

The Service provides the following features:

• Create and manage digital family trees
• Invite family members to collaboratively maintain the family tree
• Share read-only family tree links
• Export PDF family storybooks (some features require a paid plan)
• AI photo restoration (free plan: 3 per month; premium plan: unlimited)

4. Subscriptions & Payments

• Free plan features are available permanently
• Premium subscription: NT$199/month or NT$1,799/year
• Subscriptions are processed through App Store or Google Play in-app purchase mechanisms
• Once any family admin pays, the entire family space unlocks premium features
• After the subscription ends without renewal, premium features become read-only; data is not deleted
• Refunds are handled according to the App Store or Google Play refund policies
• We reserve the right to adjust pricing; existing subscribers will be notified in advance

5. User Content & Responsibility

You are solely responsible for content you upload to the Service, including:

• You warrant that you own or have lawful authorization to upload the content (photos, text)
• You grant the Service a non-exclusive license to store and display your uploaded content
• Family tree data is collectively owned by the family space and managed by family admins
• When recording information about others (especially living members), you should obtain their consent

6. Prohibited Conduct

When using the Service, you may not:

• Upload illegal, infringing, defamatory, pornographic, or hateful content
• Access the Service using automated means (bots, scrapers)
• Attempt to hack, reverse engineer, or decompile the Service
• Create accounts using false or impersonated identities
• Interfere with or disrupt the normal operation of the Service
• Transfer your account or subscription to another person

7. Data Ownership & Deletion

• Your personal account data belongs to you
• Family member data within the family tree belongs to the family space and is jointly owned by all admins
• After account deletion, your personally identifiable data will be removed, but family member records remain in the family space
• Deleting a family space requires admin confirmation; all data is permanently unrecoverable after deletion

8. Service Interruptions & Disclaimers

We strive to provide a stable service but cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability. We are not liable for losses caused by:

• Planned or emergency maintenance
• Force majeure events (natural disasters, war, government orders, etc.)
• Third-party service outages (AWS, Cloudflare, etc.)
• User device or network issues

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of fitness for a particular purpose.

9. Intellectual Property

All software, design, trademarks, and brand elements of the Service are owned by Rootree. You may not copy, distribute, or commercially use these assets without authorization.

10. Amendments

We reserve the right to amend these Terms at any time. For significant changes, we will notify you in-app. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Any disputes shall be submitted to the Taipei District Court of Taiwan as the court of first instance.
